AS I AM by MELISSA COLLINS

Our Review
‘I’d done nothing to deserve this life and was doing everything in my power to make it as good as possible…
We love Melissa Collins and once again she gave us a wonderful romance with the right amount of angst, high emotions and characters we immediately fall in love with and take into our hearts. As I am showed that the heart wants what it wants despite social status, age and profession. One soul connecting to another overcoming any obstacle thrown into the path of love and happiness.
‘In all my life, I’d never experienced anything like this with anyone…when the two of us crashed together, there was no pulling us apart.’
Chase has faced the ultimate tragedy, changing the course of his life and that of his younger brother. Our hearts broke for them but oh how we admired their pure brotherly love and their sacrifices for survival. If ever there was a case of a character deserving respect from the reader it’s Chase. Showing such maturity and selflessness in the face of grief and devastation. This wonderful man needed someone to lean on too what with everything and everyone he was carrying.
‘He was the perfect image of everything I’d ever want – a home, happy and complete, not at all broken. And yet he was the reminder of everything I wasn’t.’
Noah is at a stalemate in his personal life despite his burgeoning career as a doctor. He’s full of self-doubt -despite glowing accolades- coming to terms with being the victim of a deceitful relationship. Every cloud has a silver lining though and sometimes in order to find true happiness we have to let go of the past and learn how to weather the storm, learning to trust again and letting go of the guilt and negativity.
‘We were up against everything else out there and with that thought in my head, I knew there was no way we couldn’t tackle anything the world would hand us.’
We championed the undeniable attraction and building love between Chase and Noah hoping that the doubts in their head and the influence of others wouldn’t succeed in keeping two wonderful men apart who so obviously were meant to be. As I Am was a sweet, emotional and passionate story about making it to the other side of tragedy and heartbreak and we enjoyed every moment of it, once again falling in love with the words from Melissa Collins.
“This is what it’s supposed to be. I don’t know what it is and I don’t know why, but every bone in my body, every drop of blood flowing in my veins, it just feels right when you’re there by my side and I know I’d do anything in my power to make our lives the way they should be.”
Synopsis

Chase Hansen. Broke. College drop out. Male stripper.
My life wasn’t at all what I imagined it would be. I should have been finishing up college, interning with a well-respected business, partying with my friends. But instead, I was raising my seventeen year old brother, struggling to make ends meet. Love wasn’t even on my radar. Besides, what did I have to offer? A few crumpled singles pulled from my G-string? Defeated and exhausted, I knew I had zero chance of finding someone to love me just as I am.
Noah Carpenter. Angry. Betrayed. Doctor.
Just when I thought my life was going exactly as it should, everything turned upside down. With my final rotation in medical school complete, I finally achieved my lifelong dream of becoming a doctor. What I never expected was to catch the man of my dreams in our bed with the man of his. Beyond infuriated, I struggled to piece together the remnants of my life. Just when I’d decided to give up on love altogether, I found a man who loved me just as I am.
This is the extended version of the short story which originally appeared in the Drunk in Love Anthology.
