Devney Perry sure has a way with words and emotions. Tragic completely pulled at our heart strings and we were so caught up in the tragedy of this story that we shed a few tears. Chock-full of grief, raw human emotion, and a heated swoony romance, this story truly stole our hearts. And oh to be back with all the characters from the previous books in this series made our hearts full of joy.

‘She came here for the same reason.’

Once again the imagery and scenery of Montana has our hearts aching to visit. We want to walk down the streets of Lark Cove, go hiking on the trails and sit and enjoy a beer in the bar with everyone whilst our feet crunch the peanut shells on the floor.

“I was looking for a place to disappear.”

Piper is a wonderfully written heroine, we completely connected to her vulnerability, strength, compassion, and hope. Her huge heart. She seeks the magic in life. Starting anew after heartbreak and devastating news she finds herself on a mountain trying to restart her life and finding her happiness. First, though, she comes across true animalistic pain in the shape of a man crouched over in a clearing in the woods. A moment which stays with her and which becomes entwined with her own emotional journey.

‘She’d made the wrong choice. She’s crushed me. So I’d come here to suffer alone.’

Kaine is a broken man, a man who is truly lost and alone after a tragedy so cruel. Living in solitude working with his hands building art whilst trying to live with his memories and anguish. Tragedy brought him to the mountain yet it is also where he will learn to live and love again. His demons had us welling up.

‘Kaine chased away the homesickness. When he held me in his arms, I wasn’t alone. When he was in the room, I wasn’t the loneliest person there. He was.’

An intense attraction between Piper and Kaine ignites and it serves to take some of the pain whilst liberating them from their thoughts. Then the magic happens and we’re talking more than cake. Angst, passion, redemption, and healing. A truly emotional and inspirational journey with pure romance. One of our favourite stories by Devney Perry, no question!
