MOONLIGHT SCANDALS (De VINCENT #3) by JENNIFER L ARMENTROUT
28 January, 2019

EXCERPT form MOONLIGHT SCANDALS!
Rosie wasn’t quite sure what tipped her over the edge, leaving bitch-tigress mode behind and going straight into slap-a-bitch mode. Could’ve been the insinuation that she would somehow put Nikki in harm’s way or it could’ve been the fact that he had the gall to threaten her. Hell, it could’ve been his mere presence at this point that did it.
Either way, Rosie lifted her hand without thinking. She wasn’t going to hit him, even though that would give her enough satisfaction that therapists across the nation would be concerned. She lifted her hand to push him back.
But that didn’t happen.
Devlin had the reflexes of a damn cat, catching her wrist before she even had the joy of making contact. She gasped out of surprise and his eyes narrowed into thin slits. “Were you going to hit me?”
“No,” she seethed, wishing her eyes could shoot out death rays.
“That’s not how it appears to me,” he said, his voice deadly soft.
“Well, I have a feeling a lot of things don’t appear as they really are to you,” she shot back, tugging on her arm, but he didn’t let go. “I was going to push you since, you know, you’re in my personal space.
“I’m not the one who got in your space.” A muscle flexed along his jaw. “You got in mine.”
Okay, that was kind of true.
“There’s something else you need to know.” He tugged on her arm, and before Rosie could react, her chest was suddenly flush against his. The contact was jarring, sending a riot of sensations through her. “I don’t make threats. I make promises.”
She drew in a deep breath and immediately regretted it, because it pushed her chest against his even more, and . . . God, her stomach was dropping and twisting in ways that were not unpleasant. She felt her nipples harden, and started praying that he couldn’t feel them through the incredibly thin and worn shirt she wore and the lacy, nearly nonexistent bralette she’d slept in.
She didn’t back down, though. “I don’t think you know how to use words correctly, because that, yet again, sounded an awful lot like a threat.”
“Does it?” he asked, and his voice seemed deeper, rougher. His eyes took on a sudden, hooded quality. “If it was a threat, it doesn’t seem to be working.”
“Why is that?”
Devlin shifted just the slightest, and the next breath Rosie took lodged in her throat. She felt him against her stomach, thick and hard, and unless he had something weird in the front of his pants, he was totally turned on.
So was she.
And they were both apparently freaks, because she’d just tried to shove him and he had just threatened her, but here they were, utterly aroused, and there was a really good chance she needed to find a therapist stat.
Our Review
“Remember what they say about dancing with the devil, Rosie.”
Moonlight Scandals is without question our favourite book in this series. It’s the one we had a feeling would be the juicy cherry on the top and it truly was. It was compelling, enticing, passionate, cunning and revealing. We have been intrigued by the dark and wicked Devlin since the beginning and we’ve been desperate for his book. So much so. We needed beneath his enigmatic façade. He was the ultimate mystery and we had so many questions we needed answers to and believe us, we got those answers and more, and fell utterly and hopelessly in love with Devlin de Vincent.
“People hound my family, Rosie. They have for years. People try to use us. People try to make money and their careers off our tragedies. I cannot be too careful. None of us can.”
Jennifer L. Armentrout wrote a fabulous trilogy -which is now complete and should without question- be sitting on everyone’s bookshelves or e-readers, to be devoured. We highly recommend reading this trilogy in order so as to feel the intense emotions and behaviours that lead to this page turning twisty crescendo.
‘The man was stunning, yet there was something cold about him, almost detached and a bit cruel about how he was pieced together. To anyone else, that might’ve dampened his attractiveness, but to Rosie? That only made him all the more beautiful.’
Arrogance runs deep within the veins of Devlin de Vincent. Dark and emotionless he’s a powerful and imposing man with a wicked dry sense of humour. Always there, always watching but never participating. Who is this man and what does he know. The aura around him is frightening yet addictive. As the layers are unravelled and we begin to learn of everything that makes this man whole we fell into the black abyss. We fell at his feet. Not without wanting to pull him down a peg or two on the way though. He did make us laugh at his distaste for beaded curtains and ceiling stars. Ultimately he’s a man made up of secrets and lies, the ultimate deceiver of the truth which hides a broken man conditioned to protect his brothers at all costs. A man who is in dire need of love and understanding and to be relieved of the burdens from his past. A man who deserves to be saved from the dark and brought into the light.
‘Even his brothers were afraid of him. They had no reason to be, but he understood why. After all, he was willing to go there to protect his brothers, do the unthinkable. But they didn’t know what he knew, and it would stay that way. He was their shield and that would never change.’
Fate moves in mysterious ways and when Rosie Herpin is placed in his path, through strange circumstances, the light that has been hidden from his entire being begins to break through the layers of darkness. Rosie is a quirky ghost hunter with a fierce heart and a penchant for the paranormal. With three degrees under her belt and a part time job in her parents’ bakery she’s a whirlwind of intrigue and the exact opposite to anything Dev is used to. She’s his perfect match in every way and does not go gently into the darkness…she sets it alight!
‘There was an innate goodness inside of Devlin. It was just buried under a lot…a lot of darkness.’
The connection between Dev and Rosie is on fire as neither see eye to eye, yet cannot look away. The sparring is intense and at times highly amusing. We felt the passion and the push-pull was delicious and spot on. The heat is intense and the romance at times like smooth chocolate melting on your tongue. As for the suspense and the twists and turns in the story, well it’ll make you hear every bump in the night and the hairs stand up on your skin.
‘That part of him that had to…do things to ensure the safety of his family didn’t exist when he was with her, but strangely, he wanted her to see that part of him too.’
Moonlight Scandals had us riveted and glued to our Kindles, it had everything we love in our dark romance and was just the most perfect ending to an almost malevolent trilogy set in New Orleans. We loved the vibrancy of the eerie, the heated romance, and the ongoing mystery of a haunted house set in silence, with a family cursed and reviled for the death and deception surrounding them.
“You make me want…so much, Rosie. You have no idea.”
