Storm and Fury is the first book in The Harbinger series which is a spin-off of The Dark Elements series by Jennifer L Armentrout. We’ve not read The Dark Elements series and whilst we wish we had, because we absolutely loved Storm and Fury, we did not feel like we were missing anything integral to the storyline. If anything, it’s made us want to binge read everything that came before because we felt like we were immersed in a world of old school YA paranormal brilliance. Whilst quite slow to begin with, once the meaty aspects of the story commenced, it flew by and we were left wanting more!

“You want to see the stars?” Zayne asked…

Storm and Fury is a YA paranormal with eighteen-year-old heroine, Trinity Marrow who has lived a very sheltered life in a compound guarded by Wardens, hiding an ability which only she possesses and keeping a low profile because of who and what she is. A secret weapon waiting to be unleashed on the world joining the fight against demons, Trinity is a force to be reckoned with. Suffering from a progressive eyesight disorder she trains for a darker future, knowing what’s coming and realising that every single demon will hunt her upon discovery.

‘While the others accepted me, some were wary of a human in their midst. Some flat out ignored me. It was hard getting close to someone when they didn’t know the truth about me.’

Trinity definitely comes across young and perhaps at times naïve and immature, with no filter for her inner musings. However, she knows this and accepts it. Having suffered great tragedy and facing the burden of who she is, there’s no wonder this girl is a hot mess at times. She has an innate strength, a quirky wit, and a soft teenage heart. Having to keep your secret safe, whilst fighting the supernatural world around you does not come easy, especially when a strong attraction enters the mix in the shape of a stranger, who feels oddly familiar. Can this stranger be the key to her future? Trinity embarks on a hellish journey as a result of a breach in the place she calls home and feels safe. We loved that her hilarious friend and ghost, Peanut came along for the ride. The hilarity of Peanut was priceless.

I’d been a weapon since birth, and very few things scared me, but I didn’t have the courage to say what I wanted. Which was to be wanted for anything other than what I was born for.’

Storm and Fury is everything we love about the YA paranormal genre. It had the supernatural wonder of gargoyles, demons, angels, and ghosts. Kick-arse action and a slow burn romance. We were compelled by the fantasy and intrigued by the mystery whilst we laughed at the brilliantly placed humorous banter. We would’ve loved to have experienced the background of Zayne, Roth, and Layla from The Dark Elements series to fully understand what went on before reading Storm and Fury, however, we got the gist of it.

“I think that when humans use their free will and jeopardize where they end up when they die, that’s on them. We do everything we can to keep them safe from demons who break the rules, and you know there are rules. There must be a balance of good and evil.”

If you’re a fan of the Mortal Instruments series you’ll love this one! Get ready for Gargoyle shifters, Witches, Demons in various guises, Fallen Angels and everything that exists in between….By the way…who knew Gargoyles were so H.O.T!!!!! We are counting the days for more….
