War of Hearts by Samantha Young felt like the kind of old school paranormal which we love so much, the kind that feels like pure adrenaline inducing indulgence. Otherworldly beings, mythical creatures, drama and thrills, heat and passion. Paranormal romance is one of our favourites and this story absolutely confirmed why. Samantha Young writing as S Young nailed her first paranormal romance and we cannot wait for more from her. It had everything we loved and in many ways it reminded us of why we fell in love with Samantha Young’s words to begin with, back in 2012. This is one of her best books in our opinion.

Slow burn romances, when done well, are so incredibly enticing and thrilling and War of Hearts had a perfect pace. Conall and Thea start out as hunter and prey but end up as so much more. It was compelling reading as we travelled across Europe, visiting familiar sights as well as sights added to our bucket lists.

Thea is on the run. She knows she’s different but is unsure as to what she actually is and why, though she knows she has capabilities and gifts which are not human which makes her coveted by those who wish to harm her. Left an orphan as a teenager, she’s spent the six years since her parents’ death being prodded and probed like a science experiment and she has the scars to prove it. Thea is the epitome of strength with an immense survival instinct. We completely adored her and took her into our hearts.

Conall is on the hunt, the Scottish wolf pack’s powerhouse alpha has a unique gift which means he can track anyone and will always know their location even when they’re slippery evaders like Thea. We fell hook line and sinker for ‘wolf boy’ – what an incredible man! From the stunning Scottish Highlands, Conall travels to Europe to capture what he believes to be a life line for his sister who has a life threatening illness.

War of Hearts had so many twists, revelations and exquisite drama it kept us enthralled as we devoured this passionate and gripping love story. We did not want it to end. The only thing we would have loved was a bit more ‘afters’ however, we understand that the end paved a way for more to come, and that, we cannot wait for!
