THE GOLDEN HOUR by L.M. HALLORAN

Our Review
‘Holding her is my reward….’
L.M. Halloran is an automatic 1click author for us, and she’s an author who knows how to deliver a dark romantic suspense, ensuring we’re spellbound with every twisty turn. The way she threads her characters through various stories, makes us desperate to become more acquainted with each one we meet, which was the case with Finn McCowen, a character we met briefly in the fabulous Illusions Duet.
‘I love the taste of him, the effortless way we kiss, like our bodies aren’t learning but remembering each other.’
The Golden Hour begins with an eleven year old Finn and five year old Callisto Avellino (Calli) revealing the aftermath of events that would forever shape their young lives, setting the scene for an intriguing and twisty romance, and a need for retribution that place them both in the path of danger.
‘My hatred kept me from love – the only necessary ingredient for living a life that matters.’
Callisto has been on the run for the past six years, mysteriously disappearing from her Brown University dorm when she was only nineteen, and now living in Solstice Bay, a small town in Oregon, where she works at a bar and befriends the owner, Molly. But Callisto is living on borrowed time – fearing she is being hunted by those surrounding her evil step mother.
‘We live, love, and die for the family.’
When Finn McCowen walks into Molly’s bar in Solstice Bay, little did he know he would come face to face with the daughter of the man responsible for his father’s murder. At first he doesn’t recognise her, but when that recognition kicks in, Finn is thrown for a loop. Both Finn and Callisto set out on a hunt for revenge but at what cost? Their lives are in danger, and the ‘family’ will stop at nothing to ensure their incriminating secrets remain buried.
A cat and mouse game of sinister turns, suspenseful moments and passionate love. A shorter book than L M Halloran’s previous reads, which somewhat lacked the build-up and character depth we’ve come to love in her stories, and whilst the romance was passionate, we didn’t quite experience the deep emotions as we did in previous books. Whilst The Golden Hour may not be our favourite L M Halloran read, there’s no doubt, this author possesses an incredible talent for weaving one hell of a tale, that always holds up captive from the first to last page!
“Make me forget.” So I do. We forget everything but each other.
Synopsis

My name is Finn McCowen, and I want my revenge.
Callisto Avellino was the heiress of one of the country’s most influential families. A delicate wildflower in a bed of thorns. And the daughter of the man who killed my father.
Six years ago, she disappeared.
She says she ran away to escape the poison of her corrupt family.
Money. Prestige. Power. Murder.
We have the same agenda – or so it seems: ruin the Avellinos at all costs.
And if I have to put her in harm’s way to get what I want?
So be it.
