**EXCERPT from THE MAKING OF JONTY BLOOM**

A guy younger than Jonty with a mop of curly hair and a lot of freckles smiled at them from behind the counter. “Can I help you?”

“I need a suit,” Jonty said. “Pink or purple.”

Devan laughed. The sales assistant gawped.

“He’s colour-blind. Blue or grey,” Devan said.

There was a choice of four in Jonty’s size, which was quickly whittled down to one. Pale grey and Jonty looked so hot in it, even with his T-shirt underneath the jacket, that the breath caught in Devan’s throat and his cock perked up.

“Does my bum look big in this?” Jonty asked.

“No.”

“Damn.”

Devan spotted the assistant smiling.

“Is it washable?” Jonty asked.

“Wa…wa…no.” The assistant’s smile had gone.

Jonty turned to Devan and pouted. “We’ll have to spot clean the blood out of it then. Sorry, master.”

“That will be your job,” Devan said.

Jonty inclined his head. “Of course.”

They walked out less than fifteen minutes after they’d walked in, with a hundred-and twenty-pound suit and a thirty-pound pair of black shoes that Jonty had wrangled down from thirty-five, because there was a scuff on the heel, though Devan thought the assistant was desperate to get rid of them. Devan would have laughed if anyone had suggested he look for a suit or shoes that cost so little, laughed even harder at the idea of bargaining. This was a reminder of how fortunate he was. If he’d been shopping for a suit with Ravi, not that Ravi would have set foot in a shop that didn’t sell designer gear, they’d have been hours while Ravi made up his mind. Devan had hated shopping with him. With Jonty, it had been fun.

“I saw the way you looked at me in that suit,” Jonty said.

“Like I wanted to eat you?”

Jonty widened his eyes. “No. Like you wished they had one in your size.”

“You looked so sexy, I had a hard time not giving the guy fifty quid to lock us in the shop for fifteen minutes.”

“Fifty quid? He’d have locked us in and watched for that. Though not after I’d mentioned the blood. But fifteen minutes is a bit disappointing.”

“Hmm,” Devan said. “I bet if I wrapped my hand around your cock, you’d come within three minutes.”

Jonty stared at him and Devan could have sworn his eyes darkened. “Do it now.”

“We’re in the middle of Alnwick.”

“No one will notice,” Jonty smirked.

“Let’s go back to the car,” Devan croaked out.

“You want to do it in the car park?”

“Yes, but that’s not going to happen. I’m not going to do anything that risks either of us getting arrested. I have plans for later. We need to buy food.”

“This house has lots of board games. I saw them piled up in one of the pictures. We’re not going to be short of something to do.”

“Right.”

“And my favourite TV programme is on tonight.”

“What’s that?”

Naked and Afraid.

“Don’t they pixel out all the good bits?”

“Not backsides.” Jonty grinned.

Our Review

“I’ve been hiding all my life, protecting myself any way I could. Keeping quiet. Curling up in small spaces. When I learned that humour worked as a deflection, I used that.”

We absolutely love Barbara Elsborg; her writing is uniquely her, insofar as if we were given a book of hers to read without being told who wrote it, we’d instantly recognise it as Barbara Elsborg. Quirky, deeply emotional and immense character depth, she captures human idiosyncrasies perfectly and her own brand of quick-witted humour is always evident. The Making of Jonty Bloom is a passionate, witty, suspenseful and beautiful M/M story which showcases a multitude of human tragedies and struggles, whilst highlighting the strength of character, compassion, love and acceptance.

“But everything that’s happened to you has made you into the person you are, which is kind, thoughtful and funny. You’re strong in spite of your past, not because of it. You understand what it’s like to be lonely, what it’s like to be unloved by people who should have loved you more than their own lives. That you can rise above that and be the guy you are…I am in awe of you.”

Jonty Bloom was such a loving and lovable guy, who wore his heart on his sleeve. Funny, self-deprecating, loyal and overwhelmingly kind. Insecure and hiding behind a larger than life persona. You couldn’t help but feel an innate need to shield and protect him despite his at times erratic and confident bravado like behaviour. It perfectly cloaked a sensitive and childlike soul. Devan sees straight through this bravado and finds in Jonty what has been so severely lacking from his own life. Going through his own emotional upheaval and betrayal. These two could not be more different yet the depth of their connection was utterly believable and the strength of their passion, intense.

“Don’t leave me,” Devan whispered. “Not ever.”
“I won’t. I want this so much.”

We highly recommend The Making of Jonty Bloom to fellow M/M readers who love perfectly imperfect characters -who may be broken- but find their inner strength and passion whilst on their own journey of healing. For readers who love to feel every emotion in their romance, laughter tears and angst. And to those who are yet to meet the wonderful world of Barbara Elsborg, one of our all-time favourite M/M Authors.

“What’s going through your mind?”
“I’m wondering if you’re going to break my heart.”
