Our Review

“Every screwed-up kid who manages to pull himself up out of the dirt has one person who made a difference in his life.”

The Spark by Vi Keeland is such a feel-good read with fabulous character connection and a hero to die for. Without question, Donovan Decker is our new favourite Vi Keeland book-boyfriend! If you love second chance romances with all the feels and an uplifting yet emotional story then The Spark is definitely one to add to your reading list. The Spark does deal with some heavy subjects which can be triggers for some readers, yet the love story is what romance novels are made of! We fell in book love. Told in dual pov in a past/present format we felt like we really got to know the characters and their back story in this slow-build angsty romance that also had great humour and heat.

“You scare the hell out of me, Donovan.”
“Right back at ya, Red. But you know what? I’m more afraid of what I’ll be missing if we don’t give this a real shot.”

Donovan and Autumn first cross paths in a mistaken suitcase scenario and it was a meant-to-be kismet moment. The ruthless lawyer immediately falls for the very reluctant to commit social worker who leaves in the early hours only to disappear for a year with no contact. Until fate plays her hand again.  Their journey to love is not an easy one as the past comes back to haunt Autumn, and the scars she lives with are still very much haunting her. It takes the amazing patience and utter devotion of Donovan, who is so much more than what he seems, to help her unravel and piece together her broken soul. Vi Keeland wrote a beautiful romance with perfect depth and character growth; showing perseverance, change, hope, and overcoming past traumatic experiences. We most definitely recommend this one to our fellow romance readers!

“Looking back, a year ago I thought I knew everything, but the truth is, I had no idea what love was. But I finally figured it out. Love is…enough. None of the other things are important when you find the right person.”

Synopsis

Before I even met Donovan Decker, I knew his shoe size.

You see, I’d gone away for a few days, and in my haste to get out of the airport, I’d grabbed the wrong suitcase.

After checking out the expensive footwear and tailored clothes, I dialed the number on the luggage tag hoping maybe Mister Big Spender might have my bag. A deep, velvety voice answered, and as luck would have it, he had my suitcase, too.

Donovan and I met at a coffee shop to do the exchange. Turned out, it wasn’t just his voice that was sexy. The man holding my luggage was absolutely gorgeous, and we had an immediate spark.

He got me to admit that I’d snooped in his bag and then convinced me to make it up to him by letting him buy me coffee. Coffee led to dinner, dinner led to dessert, and dessert led to spending an entire weekend together. Donovan wasn’t just handsome with a panty-dropping voice. He was also funny, smart, and surprisingly down to earth for a man who wore seven-hundred-dollar shoes.

Did I mention he also did my laundry while I slept?

Definitely too good to be true.

So what did I do to repay him for his kindness?

I waited until he was in the shower, then ghosted him.

My life was too complicated for such a great guy.

In the months that passed, I thought about Donovan often. But New York City had eight million people, so what were the chances I’d run into him? Then again, what were the chances I’d run into him a year later…when I’d just started dating his boss?
