Our Review

“I’m not a good man, and I have nothing to give a woman like you. My heart, at this point, is ice. But while you’re with me, I will protect you like my own. And when this is done, you’ll be free.”

Break on Through is the third book in the Mafia Kingdom series, and each book can be read as a standalone. We’ve really been enjoying this series – firstly with Light My Fire, then Love Her Madly, and now Talia and Leo’s enemies to lovers, arranged marriage mafia romance in Book #3.

After being deceived in a horribly cruel way by his Mum and twin brother, Leo finds himself a long way from his Kosovo home, alone in New York – jobless and homeless, desperate to make something of himself and exact revenge on those responsible for his predicament.

‘It happened to me once in the greatest way possible, but I won’t be made into the fool again.’

A chance meeting would see him become a successful member of the Mafia Sqiptare, a made man in his own right, though three years down the track, Leo’s thirst for revenge on his brother, and those who deceived him is still first and foremost on his mind. He’s angry and won’t rest until he has put the wrongs enacted on him, to right.

‘Young or old, deception and lies are not tolerable.’

The promise of $5 million dollars is enough to convince Talia Mizrani to agree (though, she didn’t really have much say in it) to an arranged marriage with Leo. Talia, a talented music student who dreams of playing for the New York Philharmonic orchestra, needs money for schooling. This is the perfect opportunity for her, as Leo agrees that once his plan is completed, he agrees to allow her to divorce him. But we all know what happens when the heart gets involved!

‘Upsettingly beautiful. Her dark eyes are nothing short of overpowering.’

Break on Through was a somewhat tame addition to Jessica Reuben’s mafia romance series in comparison to the previous books -but nevertheless- we enjoyed it! Low-level angst told in dual POV it was an entertaining -easy to read- enemies to lovers, arranged marriage romance in which the author dealt with the themes beautifully. The growth of both Leo and Talia was apparent throughout the story, and we loved how fierce Talia was!

Synopsis

From International best-selling author Jessica Ruben comes a new enemies-to-lovers, arranged-marriage, stand-alone romance—with a dark, Mafia twist.

Talia
My only goal in life is to play the cello in a world-famous orchestra. Unfortunately, education, lessons, and connections don’t come cheap.
So, when the most notorious Mafia boss in New York City offers me millions to marry one of his men, I have two choices: take the money and follow my dreams or risk death.
I choose to take the money.
But if I had known who my husband would be, I would have picked death.
Leo might be gorgeous and lethal, but he has never met a woman who refuses to bow.

Leo
After being pushed out of my country, I lost my woman, my business, and my life.
The streets of New York City are dangerous but nothing compared to the wrath growing within me.
Joining the Mafia is a natural progression, especially when they help quench my thirst for revenge.
When the boss offers me a marriage that will help me reach vengeance, I jump at the chance.
I figure she’ll be a sweet, quiet girl …
Not the stuck-up musician from the club.
She thinks she can always get the last word, but I’m on a warpath that she can’t derail.
She can either fall in line or fall into pieces.
