Our Review

“To this day you’re still the only person who’s ever asked if I’m okay.”
“Are you?”
“No, I’m not. Not since you came back.”

A forbidden, slow burn, age gap, single parent, sexy romance from Penelope Ward is the offering in her latest novel, Moody. Moody by name, moody by nature describes the hot Dax Moody, the man at the centre of the book title, and what a man he is! A widower, a wealthy owner of a capitalist investment company, and a man plagued with second guessings and vulnerabilities.

“My happiness…and my greatest pain.” Every second spent with her always made me want her more.

What would you do if you turned up at a flash house for a massage appointment and were confronted by a hot body, a gorgeous face belonging to a man who sends shivers down your spine? Well, that’s the dilemma for Wren McCallister, a cellist whose primary job is a massage therapist. Dax Moody ruffled her feathers in more ways than one.

“My father taught me that you can find reasons to smile even in the darkest moments. He’s definitely my hero.”

There’s no denying the chemistry between Dax and Wren, as we hear both sides of their story in a dual POV telling. It’s electric but forbidden, for reasons that come to light as we dig further into the story. We must admit, there were a couple of surprises.

Dax and Wren have a complicated, slow-burn relationship that spans over a few years – there are other partners and distance in between, but the attraction and the feelings never dissipated, but the barriers, guilt, and past ghosts always seem to raise their head at the wrong moment.

“The people you love are what life is about, not a place. Places are just backdrops, like the moving scenery of a Broadway show. It’s the cast of characters that matters.”

There was a lot of push and pull which did become a little frustrating towards the end. We wanted to shake Dax a time or two, but we knew he’d get there in the end. We loved the supporting characters, each – whether positive or negative, brought something to the story.

Another winner from Penelope Ward. This lady sure knows how to tell a saucy, romantic, fun, and deeply entertaining story, with characters we couldn’t help but fall in love with.

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new standalone novel.
The day I showed up to Dax Moody’s sprawling home, I had no idea what was coming.
As a traveling massage therapist, I was used to entering the houses of strangers.
But this assignment was different from any before it.
From the outside, I’d correctly assumed the owner was rich. What I didn’t realize was that he would be younger than I’d imagined, single, stunningly gorgeous, and mysterious.
Despite the fact that Dax had booked a massage, it never actually happened, since our first appointment was unexpectedly cut short by a comedy of errors.
Certain I’d never see him again after that day, I’d done nothing but think about the captivating man.
To my surprise, he called a second time. That appointment, we talked a lot, developing a stronger connection. But once again, there was no actual massage.
The man I now affectionately called “Moody” kept calling me to come back.
It took three times before I finally gave him the massage he’d ordered. Let’s just say it was challenging to keep things professional. I was extremely attracted to Dax, and by that time, I was falling hard.
Eventually, I’d find out why he’d been so aloof, the reason why he and I could never be together.
Our story was supposed to end there, but it didn’t.
Instead, I was left perpetually longing for a forbidden man.
