From the moment we started this book, our text messages and phone calls were flying back and forth professing our heady love for A Little Too Close, the second book in the interconnected Madigan Mountain series featuring A Little Too Late by Sarina Bowen (Book #1) which we loved, and A Little Too Wild by Devney Perry (Book #3) which we’re yet to read. Let’s just say the grumpy, dependable, protective, daredevil Weston (West) Madigan completely swept us off our feet. Talk about swoon!

Rebecca Yarros is such a gifted author. Her writing makes us feel as though we are in the thick of her stories, experiencing every moment with her characters. Her ability to vividly bring to life a scene means we can escape everything and lose ourselves in her words. And that certainly was the case with A Little Too Close. We could feel the snow crunching under our feet and taste the snowflakes on our tongues, whilst experiencing the emotion and angst deep in our hearts.

A Little Too Close is a smalltown roommate to lovers, grumpy hero, single Mum, romance, with breathtaking scenery centred around the Colorado Madigan Mountain Resort – warring brothers, long-held resentment, emotion, and an abundance of chemistry and passion all packed between the pages. At the crux of it all is the divine Weston Madigan, and gorgeous Calliope (Callie) Thorne.

When a phone call from his older estranged brother Reed forces him back home to a place he vowed never to return, it’s with a heavy heart that West turns down the promotion of a lifetime and his life in the military to help Reed take the family ski resort in Summit County – Penny Ridge to the next level. He begrudgingly agrees, bit it’s not something Weston is looking forward to!

Business is so good, there is no accommodation for West, so he’s forced to share a house with Callie and her 10-year-old daughter Sutton. Callie and West are opposite in so many ways. After years in the military, West thrives on structure, Callie, and her daughter, not so much. Can they live together and come out with their hearts unscathed? Well, there’s quite the road ahead of them.

We adored this book. There wasn’t anything we didn’t love. From the setting to every character and their story. From the pain of long-held family resentment to the ache of loving a man too frightened to love. Every part of this story touched us in some way. The banter between West and young Sutton filled us with joy, the complicated relationship between Callie and West moved us, and the battles between Reed and West delivered gut-wrenching emotion. This story felt real in every way. We devoured it, we lived it, and we loved it! Now onto Crew’s book! Woohoo!
