A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL (The Grumpy Devils #1) by ELIZABETH O’ROARK
26 January, 2023

Our Review
“I wish my husband would look at me the way he looks at you,” Linda whispers. “Like he could be completely content if he never had to look at anything else.”
A Deal with the Devil was our first book by Elizabeth O’Roark, and we loved it! An enemy to lovers/grumpy boss-employee romance with amusing banter, a fun level of snarkiness, and chemistry we could feel through the pages. And then there’s Hayes Flynn. We loved his grumpy arse.
‘Instead of a healthy reminder of Haye’s callousness, I’ve just watched him die of a thousand small cuts and a few major ones.’
Told from the POV of aspiring author, Natalia (Tali) Bell, still reeling after the loss of her father, her mother falling apart, and shouldering the responsibility for her family. Not only that, her boyfriend Matt, who she has supported from day dot, finally got his big break in Hollywood, and as a thank you, he decided to cheat on her the day of her father’s funeral. You could say, she’s at rock bottom.
He exhales. “I get the feeling all your knowledge of my homeland comes from reading books about nineteenth-century orphans.”
When her best friend Jonathan puts her forward as his replacement for a couple of months as PA to the well-renowned, well-endowed, eternal bachelor, Plastic Surgeon to the stars, Hayes Flynn, the financial gain is too good to pass up. Tali accepted an advance on her first novel, much of which has been eaten up in paying her family’s debts.
How hard can it be, right? Well, when the man is as sexy as sin, wants you available at his every whim, is incapable of fetching his own Starbucks – oh, and he expects you to ‘politely dispose’ of his overnight conquests, you could say, Tali has her hands full.
‘If he was mine, I’d have held on with everything I had.’
We really did love this book! We found the sassy beautiful Tali holding her own against Hayes hilarious! This girl really gives as good as she gets – hmmm if only she didn’t try and badly copy his British accent ha-ha. Oh, and did we mention Hayes is a sexy brooding Brit?
“Honestly, the hangover is bad, but your British accent is now the most painful thing about my day.”
The push/pull was perfectly timed, and the emotional baggage of both Tali and Hayes proves obstacles to their feelings. Hayes’s baggage especially was gobsmacking! As their snarky sniping turns to heated exchanges, we were there for it all!
‘I could kiss a thousand men, and none of them would match Hayes.’
Synopsis

He might not be the devil, but working under him for six weeks is my idea of hell.
Hayes Flynn is an arrogant jerk known best for his scotch habit and the way he spreads his British “charm” all over Hollywood, never with the same woman twice.
He’s the last person I want to work for, except he has a face I can’t look away from, and the longer we’re together, the harder he is to hate. Because under that smug exterior is a heart he doesn’t want to show—one that was badly broken a decade earlier.
A part of me wants to fix it for him before I leave…but can I do it without breaking my own in the process?
