The New Guy by Sarina Bowen is the first book in her new series of standalone MM Hockey romances. Gavin and Hudson’s romance delivered a sweet, secret relationship, a single-dad sports romance, and a wonderful introduction to this standalone series.

Following a devastating loss, Gavin Gillis accepts a job as physio/trainer for the hockey team the Brooklyn Bruisers and it was fabulous to catch up with characters from that series! Two years after losing his husband, Gavin is keen to start a new life in a new place with their daughter Jordyn, eager for her to maintain a relationship with his sister, Reggie. Not to mention escaping the clutches of his mean, meddling ex-mother-in-law.
Hudson Newgate is a talented hockey player who has been traded more times than a Pokemon card and he’s had enough. Being traded so often has left Hudson unable to put down roots, and gun shy of making friendships within his teams. Recently traded to the Brooklyn Bruisers, Hudson is hoping his hip holds up, that he has some blinding games, and keeps his bisexuality under wraps.

Enter the sweet Gavin Gillis into Hudson’s life! This is one relationship he’d like to explore but both of them are keeping guard of their hearts. Gavin, because he has his daughter to think about, and Hudson because he wants to keep his sexuality under wraps, thinking coming out will ruin his career. Sometimes there are more important things than hockey, but can Hudson maintain his form at the Brooklyn Bruisers and pursue his relationship with Gavin? Well, you’ll have to read and find out!

Synopsis
My name is Hudson Newgate, but my teammates call me New Guy.
That was my nickname in Chicago, too. And Vancouver. That’s what happens when you keep getting traded. Brooklyn is my last chance, especially after my poor performance last season.
But I can make this work. The new guy knows to keep his head down and shoot the puck. The new guy puts the game first.
What he doesn’t do is hook up with the other new guy—a hot athletic trainer who lives in my building. Gavin needs this job with my team. He’s a single dad with responsibilities.
We can’t be a couple. My arrogant agent–who’s also my father–will lose his mind if I’m dating a dude. And my team needs me to score goals, not whip up a media circus.
Too bad Gavin and I are terrible at resisting each other…
